The Fine Print
At Herland Forest, we’re committed to practices that honor the environment and align with our principles of natural, sustainable burial. Here are the guidelines that ensure we stay true to this mission.
- No Vaults or Concrete Structures
We do not permit the use of burial vaults, vault lids, concrete boxes, slabs, or partitioned liners of any kind. - Biodegradable Burial Containers
All burial containers, shrouds, and associated materials must be made entirely from biodegradable, natural materials. This ensures that everything used in the burial process returns to the earth as naturally as possible. - No Embalming or Green Burial Council-Approved Embalming Only
We only accept decedents who have not been embalmed or have been embalmed using non-toxic, Green Burial Council-approved chemicals. - Family Participation in Burial Rituals
Families and loved ones are encouraged to actively participate in the burial and ritual process. We support involvement in a way that’s meaningful, while ensuring compliance with state laws. - Natural Grave Markers
Grave markers must be crafted from natural, unfinished stone and can extend no more than three feet above ground.
