“Guardian” is the title for those who purchase a plot in the cemetery.
Operating a cemetery in a forest creates enduring restrictions on the use and development of the land—helping ensure that the ecosystem’s vitality remains intact.
So, Guardians protect the life of Herland Forest when they lay their bodies down amidst it’s trees.
Becoming a Guardian of Herland is a simple yet profound way for your death to have a positive and lasting influence on the biosphere for generations to come.
Choosing a final resting place is an important decision. We want to help you create a lasting legacy that is commensurate with your values.
Herland Forest offers Guardians the opportunity to create personal funeral rites, select their own spacious burial plot, choose legacy plantings, and create hand-crafted natural memorials.
A Guardian might be…
- a visionary who identifies with the quest to transform death into new life
- an environmentalist who wants to make an ecologically responsible, far-seeing choice
- an innovator who supports practical, community-based natural life options
- a thoughtful person who approaches decisions with a high level of consciousness and empathy
Privileges of Guardianship
Those who help the cemetery fulfill its mission and purpose, the Guardians, are invited to serve on the Council of Guardians (AKA the Council) in an advisory capacity to Herland’s Board of Directors. The Council may offer suggestions, advice, and lend expertise in the matters pertaining to:
- Cemetery policies and procedures
- marketing
- maintenance of the cemetery property
- nomination of Directors and Officers
- improvements to Cemetery (including trails, fencing, and monuments)
- and other issues that may come before the Board or Officers.
Guardians are invited to attend any general meeting of the board of directors.
