Become a Forest Patron

Support the long-term work of crafting a living memorial, a permaculture forest that sustains our community.

Support Our Vision of a Sustainable Forest

The Patrons of Herland Forest are volunteers who help sustain the vision set forth in Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s 1915 novel, Herland. In this vision, a permaculture forest sustainably produces the food, fuel, and fiber a community needs to thrive—where the forest supports the community, and the community nurtures the forest.

We share Gilman’s vision and believe that the most radical thing we can do is create a working model of a better way.

How You Can Help

Not everyone can contribute hands-on labor to tend the forest, but becoming a Patron allows you to support our mission from anywhere. By making a monthly donation subscription, you help provide:

  • Fuel and equipment
  • Bulbs and seeds
  • Trees and shrubs needed to grow a bountiful, diverse forest

Your contribution helps us implement long-term sustainability projects on nature’s timeline, preserving the forest for future generations.

Why Your Support Matters

There’s a trade-off between time and money. Having a reliable stream of financial support allows Herland Forest to:

  • Plan for long-term sustainability
  • Purchase necessary resources to maintain the forest
  • Demonstrate how natural burial preserves and protects our forest for all species, not just humans

The seed money provided by our Patrons accelerates our efforts and helps preserve the habitat for local wildlife. Natural burial is a powerful strategy to preserve the forest and serve our local community, including the animals and birds that rely on it for survival.

Become a Forest Patron Today

We hope that you feel our mission is worth supporting and that you’ll become a Patron at any level that works for you. Your donation may not be tax-deductible, but it plays a crucial role in protecting and expanding the forest.
